Overseas Athletes and
International Health Insurance
By: Jason Cunningham
As a foreign professional athlete, you will
have many demands and expectations put on you. Getting used to the environment
and your team may be challenging at times. Yet when you travel overseas to
perform your sport, what should you do if your team does not cover you for
health insurance?
The strain of being a oversea, professional
athlete is probably grueling. The pressure to perform is extremely competitive and only a championship can
justify the dedication; otherwise, you might be better off at home.
Have you thought about your health insurance coverage?
Some sport teams and clubs do not offer benefits to the athletes on their teams.
When this occurs, you might attempt to buy coverage from a health insurance company
in your own country. You may find many health insurance carriers will not insure
professional athletes because of the nature of the business.
If a professional athlete is unable to find
health insurance coverage in their own country, there is another option. International
Health Insurance policies can provide you with that needed coverage. Some
policies will even cover you for dangerous sports. Read the policy benefits
before making the purchase.
Overseas athletes may find
themselves without health insurance coverage. Some health insurance carriers understand
this concern. So you may find solace in the fact that International Health
Insurance does exists.
