Can the Colts be a Playoff Team without James?
By: Jason Cunningham (7/16/2006)
This year will be quite
different for quarterback Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. It will be
the first time that Edgerrin James does not step on the field for the Colts
since he entered the NFL in 1999.
The Colts are now without
their former All-Pro Edgerrin James who bolted to become an Arizona Cardinal.
They will have to depend on the running leadership on veteran running back
Dominic Rhodes. Also, rookie running back Joseph Addai out of LSU should be able
to provide some needed pass receptions out of the backfield. It will probably
take these two running backs to fill in the holes left by the departure of
Edgerrin James.
One thing that has not
changed is Peyton Manning at quarterback. He is regarded as one of the most
technically sound passers in the NFL. Manning will again have wide receivers
Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne as his top targets.
The Colts' defense should be
strong. Led by their defensive end Dwight Freeney, the Colts should again have
one of the league's top defenses. They will hit fast and hard, and be high on
the chart for turnovers.
It is safe to say the
Indianapolis Colts will again make the NFL Playoffs. Do not expect a blistering
14-2 regular season record. However, they will probably still win their
division!
