The Fear of Selling P&C Insurance
By Jason Cunningham (11-10-06)
Some licensed insurance agents refuse to sale property &
casualty insurance products to their clients. This does not mean that these
agents will not recommend their clientele to a have an adequate level of
insurance, mainly in the areas of auto, home, and business protection. When
clients experience a premium hike in their auto or homeowners insurance, many
insurance agents fear the cancellation of the rest of the insurance and
financial products sold in this household.
It is true that insurance agents are the backbone of any
insurance company. These men and women are responsible for establishing good
public relations and service, which will help to enhance their professional
standing and that of the insurance company in the community. However, an
insurance company must achieve a certain level of profitability, in order to
stay in business. Certain conditions must be met, in order to raise premiums in
the area of property and casualty insurance. Unfortunately, price hikes can
bring an insurance agent and company bad press in the community, but it is a
part of the price of doing business. Therefore some agents prefer to send their
property and casualty elsewhere, in order to avoid being blamed for any future
increases in premium.
Property and casualty insurance is very important. Some of your
clients may not be as educated in these insurance areas, as one would be of life
insurance. Nevertheless, any licensed property and casualty agent should not be
afraid to talk about their client's insurance products; otherwise, you might
lose more of your clients to someone who can offer them a one-stop shop for all
of their insurance and financial planning needs.
