Where is your Stock Investment Going?

By: Financial Shopper Network

Most of us are investors in the stock market, whether mutual funds or individual stocks. We invest our money, hoping for a positive return. However do many of us think about where are money is really going?

Most Americans have some form of retirement plan. Therefore it is safe to assume most of us invest in mutual funds. These mutual funds are made of many stock investments, which a fund manager has chosen. Some of us purchase individual stocks for various reasons. You may like name of the company, or see that they have exceeded corporate expectations each quarter.

Do most of us ever think about the stock companies we invest in? Are we truly living what some of us are preaching? Those who have strong opinions against abortion or alcohol,  may be depending on the performance of these companies. Some of these companies sell or offer these services, and could be in your stock or mutual fund portfolio. It could be, many of us feel separated from our investments, that the thought never crossed our mind. Our investment, especially in mutual funds is somewhat ambiguous until the fund manager releases his or her report, twice a year. Besides how many individuals know all the stocks in their mutual fund portfolio, even after the fund manager's report?

Now that the thought has cross your mind, what do you think? You could chose to ignore the fact that some of your stock investments are in conflict with your moral beliefs. If you feel okay about it, then that is fine. This article was not made to bash anyone for investing in stocks that make gun parts or perform abortion procedures, but to get you think about where your investment money is going?
