Women and Investing
By: Financial Shopper Network
For many years, many women felt left out,
when making the family's investment decisions. Now times have changed for the
better. Women are not only planning their own retirement in may household, but
also taking the lead.
The old mentally was "never pitch the women."
This was a pathetic, unwritten rule that existed in the brokerage industry.
Thank goodness the brokerage industry will not tolerate this type of sexism.
Brokers should do the best job, possible for their clients, regardless of their
sex.
Today, more and more women are getting
involved in their family's investments. Often, the woman must initiate the
family savings plan, or encourage their spouse to participate in their 401K at
work. It may be safe to say, that being in the workforce, has helped bring
women into investing. Many women are more educated than men,
concerning stock, bonds, mutual funds, and retirement planning in general.
Women, however come from all walks of life. A
broker cannot simply lump all women into the same category, nor should they have
the same portfolio. Every woman is different. Each woman needs for retirement
and estate planning may differ, and their short-term goals could be at opposite
ends of the spectrum. The same thorough fact-find for a man, should also be done
for a woman.
The era is just beginning. Women's influence
in the world of investments is getting greater everyday. They often bring
investments to the forefront, when discussing such matters with their spouse.
Woman demand the same service men get and deserve it.
